Plans have been afoot for some time to sail around the Farne Islands and at an improptu meeting of the club on Sunday 9th June whilst standing in the rain it was decided that to progress the idea, all those interested should be asked to post a response to this message confirming their willingness to join in at relatively short notice on a Saturday or Sunday when conditions are suitable.

Gavin's expert opinion is that a Westerly or Southerly would be best but an Easterly would be too lumpy. we would want a nice sunny day.

Depending on numbers the services of a support boat that we feel is essential might be hired at joint cost from a boat based at Seahouses. The designated photographer would cover the event from the support boat.

A longboard would be essential but if anyone is keen to join in and does not have a longboard it may be possible to equip them.

Peter,

Count me in.

Another point is that we should really try to do this in the next two or three weeks if possible, as I want to get the article in asap.  I emailed Bill Dawes of Boards magazine this evening to find out what the deadlines are for the next editions.  The answer to this query may dictate when we do the "big adventure".

Can't wait!

Peter,

I'm also very keen to do this trip. Let's hope we get some decent weather.

Count me in.

Looks like the Veloce won't be mothballed again just yet!

Does anyone know how far we'd be sailing?

Sat 15th / Sun 16th or Sun 23rd would suit me. however don't let the lack of a boat put you off, and as far as expert opion is concerned, ........... please.

I suggest as a first time out there we limit it to probably the two nearest islands, and bear in mind landing is only allowed on the main Inner Farne which is owned by the National Front , oops ! sorry Trust. If you are members you can land for free, otherwise there is a charge.
