Keilder Water Sailing Club provides the venue for this coming weekends event.  As normal racing will take place over both Saturday & Sunday with 3 races each day, best 3 results to count. First race Saturday 1.00pm approx, 11.00am Sunday. The sailing club which is situated directly behind the Visitor Centre is very windsurfer friendly with good amenities.  If you have never tried competiton before don,t worry - its not complicated and NEWS keep things as simple as possible to encourage participants of all ages and abilities to have ago.  So put aside your inhibitions, be prepared to try something different and put those raceboards, widestyle planers and Free Formula boards to good use in an atmosphere of friendly rivalry - its basically what you do in your free-sailing isn,t it?

Peter,

An entry fee will be set by the Club and will cover the whole weekends sailing. A normal NEWS entry fee varies between £10 - £15. Prizes will be awarded in each of the sailing catergories provided that there is a minium of 3 competitors in that class, e.g.Formula, Raceboard, Club Class (those new to competiton).  Catergories within each Class e.g. lady, senior, junior etc, can also result in a prize being awarded.

David.

Dave

Can you please tell us more about club class racing - e.g. what boards / levels compete as I'd imagine that is where people would most likely compete?

Cheers

I'm interested but can only make one day, probably Sunday.

Will bring the old raceboard and give it a go!

Tim,

Club Class is dedicated to those new to racing e.g.Kielder Club members for example who might only compete because the event is being held there, or people like NWC members who are trying it for the first time.  There is no equipment restriction and you can take part using whatever kit you have. Obviously if someone entered Club Class and went onto the water with the latest Formula board and a 12m rig we might just question whether he had registered correctly!

Andy,

Yes, people do stay on site overnight, usually parking in the dinghy park.

I plan to venture up on Sunday. As an ex Kielder Sailing Club member I know that a westerly is a good direction, and that is what is forecast for Sunday. Based on the current forecast it could be a good shortboard planing day given a big sail. I shall still take the longboard just in case.
Andy, are you going up there? Fancy a wideboard race, mate?

Colin Wilinson of KWSC advises me the galley won,t be open on Saturday, although facilities for making tea, coffee etc will be available.  A more substantial repas however can be obtained from the tearooms in the Visitor Centre.  Looking forward to seeing Ross, Andy, Peter, Martin and possibly Tim(?) on the water - we might even create a NWC class!

Tim,

If there's any wind and it's Westerly it's usually good (and very scenic) sailing at Kielder - your 128lt and a big sail will be fine.

Blimey, when I checked windguru at 5pm it was saying good F4 w on Sunday. Seems to have lulled a bit already! Still planning on Kielder though as it can be a bit breezier up there.

Mr Chairman this all has a familiar ring to it. A touch of dejas-vous! Someone said a similar thing last year, "great venue, often wind at Kielder when it's windless elsewhere",.........then on the day....a great turn out at Kielder, a good number of club members turned out! Then as a vacuum formed over the glassy waters of Keilder and nothing stirred, the swarms of midges feasted merrily on the band of discruntled windsurfers on the shore,....only one member missing, the chairman! Oh yeah and then the heavens opened and the greatest thunder storm in history broke out to finish the day off nicely.

Having said all that. We're planning on being there this weekend and looking forward to it!......

Let's hope the wind turns up as well as lots of NWC Members.

See you

Steve,

For the record I did go, but where were you?

Also turning up, completely unforecast, was the wind!
