The idea of this day is to (a) have a barbeque (b) encourage novices to come and sail on the sea in the safety of Boulmer Haven, weather permitting and (c) get together and have some fun.

We will be there from around 10.00am until late.

Not sure yet what the tide will be doing but there will be room on the beach for the BBQ and room on the dunes for people to gather even if the tide comes in.

If you have not been to Boulmer before head for the village (itís so small you cannot miss it) there is a car park in the middle signposted from the road. Either park in the hard standing or turn right up the track just after the entrance to the car park, go past the cottage and park in the places provided off the track near the beach and grassy areas, thatís from where we will set up the BBQ. There should be flags to show you where we are.

Beach games will be taken and if Toad attends and remembers the Club Gas BBQ will also be available, we will take some disposable BBQís anyway.

You will need to bring your own food and drink.

If there is not enough wind for serious windsurfing we will try and run some fun sailing and whacky races.

Letís hope we get some sunshine and a good turnout.

Please post a reply to confirm attendance.

That sounds brilliant but unfortunately I will be down south for the weekend. I really wish I could make it. Have a great time.

Peter, can you clarify - is it Saturday 18th or Sunday 19th?  If its the latter I hope to be there.

Plan to be there too, unless it is seriously strong SW and I am compelled to head west.

Nico,
Do you want to play out on your bike in the morning and BBQ for noon?

John,

I would love to go riding next week-end but a bike ride before the BBQ seems a bit tight. How about Saturday ?

Ross got new cleatless pedals last WE. If he can make it too, he will show you where to fall off

Cheers

The tide times on Sunday are as follows

Sun 19 Aug
LW HW LW HW
01:19 07:38 13:54 20:08
1.6 m 4.6 m 1.4 m 4.2 m

So I suggest people plan on sailing morning from around 10.00 until midday (possibly a bit later) BBQ and any beach games we organise followed by early evening sail from around 6.00pm onwards.

Because of tide times we will have a beach for the BBQ (good planing to do so)  but I would suggest an early start for sailing.

I will set up flags so look out for these and congregate around if you can find space to park.

Looks like 17 or about takersto date so a few more of you out there would not go amiss.

BBQ will be provided but you will need your own food and drink as per first posting.

Hi

I'm hoping to turn up armed with other half and cameras it'll be great to meet you all and finally get some pics of you in action. I've just had to get new camera as old one died so it'll be great way to test it out. Is there anything I need to bring food wise?

Had a dream about Boulmer BBQ last night. It was a clear sunny day and I was flipping burgers on the beach. Only a light breeze blowing with half a doz sailors wobbling about, however someone was out on a Gun sail and a Mistral longboard blasting along fully powered.

Anyone care to anylise this, am I a represed longboarder??

On a practical note, I will be in the van on Sunday. It has a 4m wind out canopy on the side, if weather is bad it will provide some shelter.

Will be there early (10 ish) to sail the falling tide, the best tide state if your're not quite sure of the salty stuff! Even the low tide (13:30) should give waist deep water at the South end of the Haven.

Hopefully there should be a chance for all abilities to be out sailing during the day.

See you there

Phil, you really did miss a good sail,

1 1/2 hours of 6.5m, 135ltr, flat water,

break for the bbq (which coincided with the low tide) with good food and company,

then another 2 hours of the same

Also met a few of holidaying windsurfers who hope to enjoy the sailing at Boulmer next week,

I'm on holiday next week too

For all those that braved the weather (report & photos to follow) thanks for making the effort, for all those that stayed at home you missed a good two sessions of steady clean cross shore winds and some good waves on the reef on the outside, although only Mike was sailing out thhrough the channel when I left.

OK so it rained but so what when your windsurfing!

If it had been winter you would have been saying what a wonderful warm day it was.

Sailed Bamburgh on 5.0m, cross on to onshore. Messy sea, large waves on the outside, strong rip and a lot of kiters.

picked at d-bay cross off 5.3m-5.8m and some rideable waves. apologies for not making the barbeque, looked like the best time for the wind, direction, tide and wave combination was not going to suit boulmer.
