A few of us are planning to meet up for a pint or two on Thursday night (2nd feb).
8pm in the Masons Arms, Warkworth- if you would like to join us.
In years gone by we used to meet up once a month. Several attempts to revive this have failed.
Hope to see a few familiar and some not familiar faces.

Still planning on meeting for a pint or two tonight. A bit retro (just like my kit!) I know but it was quite popular before social media arrived. Is nobody else interested?

Sorry - can't make it tonight as I am working.  Agree that it would be nice to have more regular social get togethers though.  Maybe once a month - few pints and a curry.

... I'd be up for a revival, we need to get a list together and work out what is central for all concerned .... is this a club thing? 'cause I'm not even a member anymore, which is another thing that needs sorting, is it worth joining the "club" do we need the website, we have no chairman, no AGM's, nothing except the people, who I suspect probably half have not even joined up. The money will eventualy run out for running the website, so something needs to be decided soon.

Gavin

The points you raise are good points. Steve, Tony C and I met last night and we are planning an AGM in the next few weeks.

In the meanwhile we propose a Pub meeting at the Tap & Spile in Morpeth on 15 February at around 8.00.

Andy's departure and my own personal circumstances over the past year I think has resulted in some lack of activity but depending on the members' wishes we intend to have some proposals for consideration at the AGM to remedy the situation.

Great Peter ! ... I'm glad others have been thinking about it too. It would be a shame to see the club die, but it needs some new impetus and a new direction from the way it used to be. Some young blood with an idea for the way things are now, is what's required.

When I lived down south I was part of the Bristol Nomads windsurfing club and they had a pretty decent set up.  Aside from the normal days at Weston beach and other local spots they had a monthly get togethers in varoius pubs around Bristol.  They also did several 'away weekends' throughout the summer months to go to spots not normally sailed. We could do something similar - some great west coast spots, Rhossy, Fraserborough and even Tiree to name but a few.

I doubt they would actually happen though.  I tried to organise a couple of weekends to Scotland and Rhosniegr last year and nobody was interested - not even our dedicated wave heads (see great Derwent debate thread) wanted to travel to places that actually get good waves.

It would be a shame to lose the website.  It gives the region a windsurfing identity and is often the first port of call for windsurfers moving to the area or visitors looking for beaches etc.  Somebody has to run it though, which I suppose is a bit of a pain for them.

Depsite my reservations, I think it's worth a try.  Happy to help in any way I can - committee member, social sec, events or trip organiser.  One thing is for sure though, it needs our support to make it work and apathy will kill it.

Here's to an active and varied 2012.

I'm in Thailand on 15th I'm afraid. As I said though, consider me for
anything you need. Happy to organise trips, weekends, socials etc.

Nothing to do with technology please, as I'm terrible with all things
computer.

We're away skiing next week so can't make it to Tap n Spile . Thanks for offering to get involved Richie. That's exactly what we need, more of us getting involved (in my opinion). Hopefully we can keep the club going in one form or another.

Hope you get a good turn out guys. Hopefully I can make the next one.

In my absence, here are a couple of ideas you may (or may not) want to discuss.

1) Some sort of events diary so that people can get pass outs sorted nice and early for away days, over-nighters.

2) Club weekends away.  Published nice and early to allow people to plan.  Maybe 3 in a season - early spring, summer and autumn.  Spring and Autumn trips could be to wave spots and the summer spot could be somewhere more WAG and kid friendly locations that offer other activities as there probably won't be any wind anyway (beginner conditions, SUP, wakeboard, MTB, beer etc).  There is more to life than windsurfing.

3) Socials - monthly in nice pubs around the region.  End of season BBQ, lash up and a Xmas get together.  Again dates posted early so people can get them in the diary.

4) Consider events that we may like to travel to as we are a bit out of it up here. NWF at Hayling / Scottish Windfest / Tiree classic.

These are just ideas to try and build a bit more 'esprit de corps' as at the moment we are just a group of people who occasionally bump in to each other at the beach.  As I said before, it needs people to support and actually turn up.  It's really difficult to plan anything when all you get is 'I'm watching it' and what you really need is committment.  I've made the first step trying to organise a trip to Rhossy - it might prove a decent indicator of whether or not any of this will work for NWC.  Time will tell.

Onwards and upwards!

sorry, wont be able to make the pub, but thought i would add that I certainly value the website and forum. It certainly helped me out when moved up here from the south west 6 years ago. would be a shame for the website and forum to fizzle out.

cheers Toby
